This weeks artist conversation was with Andre Ritter. He graduated from CSULB in the Spring of 2015. His attained his BFA in metals which was his majoring while attending CSULB. CSULB let Ritter who is an alumni to have his art exhibition which is the first time this happens. He is very grateful that they let him have is gallery there. Metals is his specialty for the past four years. Ritter has many things that he enjoys like he enjoys comic books and his favorite television show is The Walking Dead. Some other hobbies he does are going to beach, playing volleyball, and visiting art galleries. His art explores many different types of ideas like mystery, antiques, and other cultures.
Ritter uses metals to create all of his art work. A metal he uses is aluminium since is more simple. He mentioned the reason he uses aluminium is because it is easier to work with and make his creations. An example of his work where he used aluminum is the second picture of the lamp and also the first picture you can see he used many different metals to make that are piece. He has also used steal but not as often because its more difficult to work with then aluminium. With steal he would need to us fire to fix the sharp edges so its more complex.
His art is all based on what he likes and enjoys. He is interested in other cultures like the South Pacific which you can see in his art work in the third picture which is a head piece. This head piece has bright colors and the beautiful feathers that pieces everything together which is a cultural piece. His art is more of nature motion with details which represents what he likes. He dislikes open spaces which that is the reason why he tends to do bigger art works to cover up the open spaces. Some of his inspiration he acquires from others own ideas. Most of his art reflects as mysterious and soothing at the same time.
I find his art work to be very amazing. You would think it something so simple but it has a way deeper meaning. The fact that he used metals to make his art work is so fascinating because its a material that we all have laying around in our homes. I found the head piece to be really beautiful and I really love the colors of the feathers which brought everything together. Overall, I found his art pieces very interesting and amazing. I think its really cool how you can make art come alive with different materials.
